Teeth Extractions in North York

There are various reasons why a tooth may need to be removed. Wisdom Teeth Extractions in North York

Wisdom teeth, or third molars, typically emerge between ages 17 and 21. However, they can cause problems even earlier. Impacted wisdom teeth, unable to properly erupt, may grow in at awkward angles or be obstructed by other teeth or the jawbone. The consequences of untreated impacted wisdom teeth can include decay, damage to neighbouring teeth, and persistent pain.

At Concorde Dental Office, we offer expert tooth extraction services, including wisdom teeth removal. Our North York dentist, Dr. Jesse Lackman, and our experienced dental team prioritize your comfort and well-being throughout the process. From taking appropriate X-rays to discussing your treatment options and reviewing pre-and post-operative instructions, we ensure you feel prepared and confident before any treatment begins.

Benefits of Wisdom Teeth Removal:

  • Pain Relief: Say goodbye to the discomfort and pain caused by impacted or misaligned wisdom teeth.
  • Preventive Care: Avoid potential oral health issues, such as infections, cysts, or damage to surrounding teeth.
  • Enhanced Oral Health: Addressing wisdom teeth problems early can help you maintain a healthier smile for the long term.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

From our thorough diagnosis, we will devise a treatment plan that is right for you. We will create a program of therapy that may greatly reduce the stress on the joint while aligning it more accurately and comfortably.

For the first 24 hours, you may experience the following symptoms:

  • Bleeding: Bleeding will occur for several hours after the removal of the tooth. We recommend placing a piece of gauze over the area and biting down to apply pressure. Avoid rinsing, sucking, or spitting for the first 24 hours as it will inhibit the growth of clots to stop the bleeding.
  • Facial Swelling: Facial swelling in the area where the tooth was removed is very common. Just place a piece of ice wrapped in a cloth on the swelling for 10 minutes, then remove it for 20 minutes.
  • Pain Management: Tylenol or Advil can be taken to alleviate some of the discomfort. Your dentist may prescribe you a more potent painkiller.
  • Dietary Restrictions: Food should be chewed as far away as possible from the site of extraction. Avoid hot liquids and alcohol for at least 24 hours. In the case of difficult extraction, consume soft or liquid foods for the first 24 hours.
  • Oral Hygiene: Continue to brush your teeth but avoid the teeth directly next to the site of extraction. Do not use mouthwash as it can irritate the extraction site.

Full healing can take from a few weeks to a few months to occur. Within the first week or two, your mouth should be comfortable enough to use normally again. If you are concerned your recovery is not proceeding normally, call us immediately.

Our North York dentist, Dr. Jesse Lackman, will keep a close eye on the development of your wisdom teeth. With vigilance and preventative care, we can avoid the complications of misaligned wisdom teeth.
